Hello, I am Leon Fletcher-Tomenius, Principal Counselling Psychologist. I work in the HFY team for 3 days of the week and lead a Psychology in Probation team for the other 2 days of my working week.

I have worked for the NHS for over 10 years in a range of teams supporting people in the community. I developed a keen interest in working in secondary care and was part of a psychosis team for part of this time. In my other role, I work closely with probation services and support people with personality difficulties who are involved in the criminal justice system. I particularly enjoy working with other professionals, supporting a multi-disciplinary approach to enable people to access the support they need. I aim to support people with developing their own understanding and ‘formulation’ of their difficulties and apply psychological interventions in a way that best meets their individual needs. I am particularly interested and completed additional training in CBT and schema focussed approaches. More recently, I apply EMDR as a therapeutic approach when working with trauma. I also use other approaches of psychological therapy and theory and apply these to the unique individual(s) or teams that I am supporting. Underlying all of these approaches is a strong belief in the fundamental importance of the therapeutic relationship and the necessary conditions that underpin this, which I believe, is central to therapeutic change.

I joined the HFY team in April 2021 and have seen the service grow and develop during this time. I feel greatly privileged to be able to support staff who are often facing difficult circumstances in their personal and professional lives.

When I am not at work, I try to find time to engage in various sporting pursuits and love listening to and playing music. This is important to my own wellbeing, which is something I try and prioritise when I can.
